The appropriate height for the feeder depends on the size of your pig; however, we recommend positioning it so that the basket hangs approximately at snout level. This allows for comfortable and natural interaction with the toy, encouraging engagement without strain.
Training is simple and fun!
Start by dropping a few pellets directly onto the rooting mat so your piggy can root around and enjoy the reward.
Next, hold a few pellets in your hand near the feeder—let your pig smell them, and when they nudge your hand, drop the pellets onto the mat as a reward.
Finally, load the feeder with pellets and give it a little shake or nudge so your pig can see some fall onto the mat.
Once they make the connection, your clever piggy will be snout-bumping like a pro in no time!
Start with about 1/4 cup of pellets—or a small handful. That’s usually enough to keep your piggy engaged for a while! If you use too little, your pig may lose interest if no rewards make it to the rooting mat.
We recommend using only dry pig pellets, as they’re the perfect size to fit through the feeder holes and keep your pig engaged without making a mess.
Standard pig pellets like Champion or Mazuri work great in the feeder. For larger pellets like Sharps, just crush them into smaller pieces before use.
It’s possible, but not likely. Your pig will quickly learn to nudge the feeder with its snout to release pellets onto the rooting mat. Since your piggy will have its weight on the mat—securely attached to the base—it should stay firmly in place during play.
We recommend using the toy indoors to keep your piggy entertained—especially in those moments when mischief is most likely! While it can be used outside, be sure to keep it dry, as it's not designed for rain or wet conditions.
Yes! The rooting mat can be replaced if it gets worn out. You can also switch it up with artificial turf, rubber, or even a silicone mat—whatever keeps your piggy rooting and happy!
This is pretty common! The easiest fix is to simply lift the feeder/snacker and reattach the mat. Quick and easy!
